This is the term given to describe the unknown affliction affecting the honey bee population in the United States and Europe. Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is marked by the sudden death and abandonment of up to 90% of honey bee hives in some areas. While the real cause is unknown, theories range from pesticide poisoning to cellular phone and satellite interference. Many crops are dependent upon migrating bee keepers and their honey bees for pollination, and the impact of CCD on these crops is unknown at this time.
